The Art of Can

Red Bull Art of Can is a nationwide hunt for creativity where artists are asked to conceptualize and create pieces of art using only Red Bull cans as their primary material. After viewing hundreds of submissions our panel of six judges have selected thirty to be placed on display in a premium art exhibition in downtown Chicago.

Kaleb Dean

“I actually started to make this piece before I even knew about Red Bull Art of the Can,” Kaleb Dean says of “Mr. Bull, A Community Brand.” After pulling a few tabs off of Red Bull cans in his dorm room, Kaleb hit upon the general idea for his sculpture, but given the scope of the work, he knew that he needed help finding all the requisite tabs.

“I collected the tabs by asking friends, local clubs and bars, and others to collect them for me,” Kaleb says. “Every single tab on the work is special. Each one is custom-bent to fit in its place, which makes each one unique, just like the person who gave it to me.” When he did finally hear about Red Bull Art of Can, Kaleb had a ready-made sculpture to enter. He says that the exhibition gives him the opportunity to “unite my community with the Red Bull and Chicago art community.”
